Bruce R. Watkins Cultural Heritage Center
Check out exhibits, displays, and even stage performances celebrating the contributions of African Americans to the establishment and growth of Kansas City. Free to tour, but donations are gladly accepted.
Children’s Peace Pavilion
A hands-on children’s museum featuring more than 25 child-centered exhibits that teach, entertain, and spark the imagination while teaching essential skills like communication and conflict resolution.
Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead
Teach your children the importance of animal stewardship and agriculture in this hands-on activity just outside the city. Designed to resemble a Kansas City farm, the site is home to more than 200 animals you can view and interact with. Admission is free 2:00 PM to close Monday – Thursday.
Boulevard Brewing Company
Ever wondered how your favorite Independence area brews are made? Take this free 40-minute tour (offered every Wednesday) and find out! The tour ends at the tasting room where you can sample a variety of different Boulevard Brewing blends and pick up some for later.
Haskell Indian Nations University Cultural Center & Museum
Explore the history of the University and the tribes that once populated this land in this sweeping cultural exhibit located on the grounds of the Haskell Indian Nations University, which was established to serve the educational needs of Olathe native residents.
Ernie Miller Nature Center
Just outside the Overland Park are is a beautiful natural environment filled with hiking trails, exhibits, bird watching, gardens and much more – all free to the public to enjoy.
