For beer lovers, there is no better brew than a hometown ale, carefully refined in small batches with locally-sourced ingredients that speak to the spirit and flavor of a region. If you want to experience that, and take in some of the local color too, check out these Kansas City area breweries* that promise to show you what modern brewing is all about.

Brew Lab, Overland Park

The Brew Lab is a unique brewery and taproom that not only offers excellent small-batch ales and pilsners, it has a full kitchen, and brew supply shop as well.  If that weren’t enough, the Brew Lab also offers a brewing supply shop, classes to help would-be brew masters learn to create their own blends, and an opportunity to work with the resident Brew Techs in the Youbrew experience that lets you become the architect of your own brew in their commercial brewing facility.

Fringe Brewery, Lee’s Summit

The first brewery of its kind in the history of Lee’s Summit, Fringe offers up a variety of small-batch ales and IPAs, including popular English Bitters, a coffee-infused stout, and an award-winning grapefruit wheat that we think might be the perfect flavor to close out the summer.

BKS Artisan Ales

A new neighborhood brewery in Kansas City’s Brookside neighborhood, BKS opened in 2017 and prides itself in its delicious traditional ales, as well as experimental recipes that produce unique flavors and rich colors. The operate a tasting room at their Brookside location and also partner with local eateries such as Heirloom Bakery and Hearth to showcase the many ways their beer can be paired with local dishes for the perfect dining experience.
